The Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat (VDS) has commenced countrywide consultative workshops with County Governments in a bid to increase participation of counties in the realisation of Kenya’s aspirations of being a newly industrialised country by 2030.

The Secretariat, which is mandated to establish strategic linkages that contribute to the development of the country, has established partnerships with counties through signing of MOUs. As part of the engagement, the Secretariat is working with Turkana, Uasin Gishu and Laikipia counties through forums with the County executives. VDS will focus on aligning the County Integrated Development Plans with Vision 2030, Medium Term Plans.

‘’We intend to exchange ideas with the County Governments on the implementation of national projects in counties and the possible challenges to the projects. It will be a platform to share the status of projects, lessons learnt in the implementation, challenges encountered in the implementation and possible areas of intervention by Vision 2030 Secretariat,’’ said Prof Gituro Wainaina acting director general VDS.

Each of the 47 counties plays host to Vision 2030 flagship projects especially in infrastructure and crosscutting social pillar projects such as health, education and public sector reforms. The passage of the 2010 Constitution brought together two levels of government at the national and county level through devolution, which is a flagship project under the political pillar. Both levels of government have been cooperating in implementing Vision 2030.

In the 2016/17 financial year, Sh302 billion had been allocated to the 47 counties. Some of the money will go towards supporting Vision 2030 projects in the counties.
“There is need to convene more meetings and seminars with relevance to the flagship projects and other priority projects in the counties to guide them in planning and budgeting,” added Prof Gituro.
