The Kenyan national soccer team, Harambee Stars, has moved from the previous position 111 to 109th place in the latest Fédération Internationale de Football Association’s (FIFA’s) world rankings.
In a statement released on Thursday, July 10, 2025, FIFA said the rankings are still topped by Argentina at 1,885.36 points, followed by Spain in 2nd place (1,867.09 points) and France in 3rd place (1,862.03 points).
“The changes start at the top end, with Croatia climbing one place to return to the top 10 at the expense of Italy (11th, down 2). For their part, Portugal (6th, up 1) and the Netherlands (7th, down 1) have swapped places, while eighth-placed Belgium have not budged but now have Germany (9th, up 1) looming ominously behind them,” it said.
This comes as Kenya readies for the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN 2024 to be co-hosted by neighbours Uganda and Tanzania from August 2 -30, 2025. Stars have been drawn in Group A alongside DR Congo, Morocco, Angola and Zambia. They kick off their campaign against 2016 Champions DRC on August 3, at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.
Already, head coach Benni McCarthy has named provisional Harambee stars squad that will play in the intercontinental league. Former champions and Football Kenya Federation premier league’s runners up Gor Mahia and Bandari FC have each contributed five players to the squad while Police FC who clinched the league title for the first time ever manages four players in the 30-man list.
Besides the Ulinzi Stars duo of Staphod Odhiambo and Yakeen Muteheli, Tusker FC goal Brian Opondo is another who will be part of the national team squad for the first time ever after earning their debut call ups.
Coach McCarthy has incorporated top three scorers from the just concluded season, with Moses Shummah (17), Emmanuel Osoro (16) and Ryan Ogam (15) all getting a chance to show their scoring prowess on the continental stage.
McCarthy’s team is set to report to the camp on July 10, to begin preparation for their debut in the tournament tailor-made for local based players.

The next edition of the FIFA World Rankings will be published on September 18, 2025.
“The last few months have seen some inspiring football action, including on the international stage with FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, confederation showpieces and a number of friendly matches,” FIFA said.
