The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has raided the home of Patrick Analo Akivaga, a senior official in the Nairobi City County Government’s Urban Planning and Development Department, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and economic crimes within the county government.
The early morning operation on Thursday, June 4, was conducted at Akivaga’s residence in Syokimau, Machakos County, as well as in his vehicle, according to the commission.
In a statement, the EACC said detectives recovered cash believed to be proceeds of corruption amounting to Sh51.3 million and US$113,000 (about Sh14 million), bringing the total to approximately Sh65.3 million. The money was reportedly found packed in two travel suitcases in the house and the boot of a vehicle.
“Today, EACC conducted a search operation at the residence of Patrick Analo Akivaga, Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning at the Nairobi City County Government, as part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and economic crimes within the County,” the commission said.
The commission said the cash and other items recovered are being treated as exhibits as investigations continue into their source and possible links to abuse of office.
Detectives also seized various documents, including title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, land and vehicle sale agreements, and approved planning documents from the Nairobi City County Government. Electronic items such as laptops, mobile phones, and tablets were also recovered.
The EACC said the materials will be analysed as part of the ongoing probe. The commission has not indicated whether charges will be preferred.
Akivaga had not publicly responded to the allegations by the time of publication.
