Mobile payment brand M-PESA has again been voted Kenya’s leading Superbrand, ahead of parent company Safaricom. The latter moved up one place to second, swapping positions with the Kenya Red Cross, which dipped to third. The result follows a comprehensive survey of marketing experts and over 1,000 Kenyan consumers on behalf of Superbrands East Africa, in a process managed by London based The Centre for Brand Analysis. The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has called for the introduction of direct scheduled flights from the United Kingdom (UK) to Mombasa so as to boost tourist arrivals from the important source market into the coastal region. There have been no direct flights from the UK to Mombasa following the abrupt withdrawal of UK Charters from the route, leading to an immediate reduction in tourist arrivals to Kenya from the UK. IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, together with The MasterCard Foundation, today announced a cooperation agreement valued at $1 million with microfinance institution FINCA in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Under the agreement, FINCA will expand access to credit and digital financial services for low-income people and small-scale entrepreneurs.
