Chinese mobile phone manufacturers have continued to dominate mobile phone sales in East Africa as Tecno Mobile came out on top during the last quarter of 2019 accounting for 47% of total smartphones shipped into the region. According to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung Mobile came in second with 13% of the region’s phone shipment. The World Bank has committed $60m (Sh6.2b) to support the country in combating the deadly coronavirus pandemic. For the sluggish progress, to date has been primarily a consequence of ‘putting all our eggs in one basket’ and expecting the state to deliver the SDGs, which it cannot.
