A total of 340 students celebrated their graduation after a 7-week digital skills training program in Uasin Gishu County, on Monday, March 11.

The program, which is a collaborative effort between the DigiTruck and the Gladys Boss Foundation, an organization championed by Uasin Gishu Women Representative, Ms. Gladys Boss Shollei, conducted practical sessions covering various topics including basic digital skills, online job searching, CV writing, and online marketing.

“This graduation marks a significant milestone for these students who have worked hard to acquire valuable digital skills,” said Ms. Gladys Boss Shollei. “I am proud of their dedication and commitment to improving their prospects in the digital age.”

The DigiTruck, a solar powered mobile classroom, has been instrumental in bridging the digital divide in rural Kenya, having trained more than 4600 youth across 28 counties since its launch in October 2019. The program’s success has led to plans for its continuation throughout the year, further empowering youth in remote areas with essential digital skills.

“We are thrilled to see the impact of the DigiTruck program in empowering youth across Kenya,” said Eng. Maureen Mwaniki from Huawei. “Huawei remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote digital inclusion and skills development.”

In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, possessing digital skills is more crucial than ever. These skills not only enhance employability but also empower individuals to participate fully in the digital economy. From online job opportunities to e-commerce ventures, digital skills are the gateway to a world of possibilities. By equipping youth with these skills, we are not only preparing them for the jobs of today but also enabling them to become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.

The graduation ceremony was a testament to the dedication of the students and the commitment of all partners involved in the program. As the DigiTruck continues its journey, it is poised to create more opportunities for youth to thrive in the digital era.
