The delay in token generation was experienced on February 10, with KPLC attributing it to a technical hitch that affected both prepaid token generation and postpaid bill systems.

Kenya Power (KP) has finally solved a token purchase hitch which affected both prepaid (token generation) and post-paid bill payment systems on February 10.

The power distributor said in a notice issued on Tuesday, February 13, that the system is now up and running, and that customers can purchase their tokens through the M-Pesa Paybill number 888880.

“Following a recent system disruption that led to delays in the processing and delivery of prepaid tokens, we are glad to inform you that the issue was resolved yesterday (Monday February 12, 2024),” KP said.

The government agency added that the tokens purchased during the system downtime through M-Pesa were processed on Monday evening.

“As of yesterday, we had processed and sent out all electricity tokens purchased by respective customers via MPESA,” it said.
