The National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee (NABAC) will conduct public hearings in 20 counties across the country, on the estimates of revenue and expenditure, for the 2024/25 financial year and the medium-term plan.

The public participation will start on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 and end on Friday, May 17, 2024, with members of the public and stakeholders allowed to submit their written proposals and suggestions through the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, on or before Monday, May 20, 2024 by 5pm.

A notice issued by the National Assembly indicates day one of the public hearings will be conducted in Mombasa, Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, Kakamega, Meru, Mandera, Homabay and Turkana Counties.

The second phase of Public hearings will be in Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Murang’a, Baringo, Narok, Nyamira, Vihiga, Isiolo, and Nairobi Counties.

In coming up with the criteria for the counties to be visited, the committee prioritized those that have not been visited in past public participation exercises.

The national government estimates of revenue and expenditure for 2024/25 financial year and the medium-term plan, proposes to continue prioritizing the implementation of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) which aims at promoting investments of ordinary citizens while empowering them financially.

The budget committee is also seeking submissions of memoranda from the public on the Supplementary Estimates II for 2023/24 financial year, to be submitted to the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly, on or before Monday, May 20, 2024.

The supplementary estimates II seek to provide additional funding for emerging priorities, meet unforeseen expenditures and realign budgetary allocations to projected absorption levels.
