Even though major tech conferences and events have been called off as a result of CIVID-19, Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) has decided to go against the tide and go on with its upcoming event scheduled for September in Berlin in.

Despite the fact that the trade show is still happening, it is to adopt an innovative new concept. This is following the government’s decision to put up restrictions such as a ban on all events with more than 5,000 participants until October 24.

According to its organizers, Messe Berlin and gfu, they had anticipated this development and thus had been brainstorming a range of alternative concepts to host the consumer electronics and home appliances show.

“Planning is well advanced for a concept that will allow IFA to deliver on its core functions for our industry as a global showcase for technology innovation and an important meeting place for brands, manufacturers, retailers and media,” said the organizers.

On the other hand, Hans-Joachim Kamp, chairman of the supervisory board of gfu Consumer and Home Electronics also stated that this development was expected as a result of the spreading pandemic.

“We expected this development given the constantly evolving pandemic and appreciate that we have now a clear regulatory framework that enables us, our partner Messe Berlin, and our exhibitors to make detailed plans for IFA 2020,” he said.

IFA, which is one of the oldest industrial exhibitions in Germany and the world’s most significant trade show for consumer electronics and home appliances offers the opportunity to exhibitors to present their latest products and developments. Other conferences to be affected include Oculus Connect, E3 2020, and Apple’s WWDC 2020 which were hosted virtually and the likes of MWC 2020, SXSW 2020, Facebook F8 and Google I/O 2020 which were cancelled.
