Packet Clearing House, according to Interxion Holding NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of carrier and cloud-neutral colocation data centre services, has deployed two new points of presence (PoPs) at Interxion’s data centres in Marseille and Madrid.

Packet Clearing House (PCH) is a global non-profit organisation that provides operational support and security to critical Internet infrastructures including Internet exchanges and the core of the domain name system. Since 1995, PCH has been working to make this system faster, more scalable, and more resilient against attack. Today, the company operates the world’s largest authoritative DNS service network, hosting two of the DNS root letters and more than 400 top-level domains on thousands of servers in more than 180 locations globally.

Interxion’s MRS1 data centre in Marseille will be PCH’s second most important PoP in France, and the organisation’s main gateway to Northern Africa, while MAD1 within Interxion’s Madrid data centre campus will be PCH’s largest PoP in Spain and one of its major interconnection hubs in Europe.

“We are very happy to deepen our collaboration with Interxion by deploying name server clusters in Interxion’s Marseille and Madrid campuses,” said Bill Woodcock, executive director at PCH. “By bringing DNS content closer to more users in France and Spain, we ensure the privacy of users’ Internet traffic by ensuring it never leaves the protections afforded them by their own country, and by the European Union more generally. By locating those servers in Interxion’s hubs, which concentrate national and regional traffic from many large networks, we optimise the performance and security of as many users as possible. Interxion’s robust data centre facilities ensure that our services are available and performing their best, 24×7”.

According to Fabrice Coquio, managing director of Interxion France, “hundreds of networks colocated at Interxion’s facilities will, as a result of PCH deployment, benefit from lower latency to critical Internet services. By joining our campus in Marseille, PCH will further boost the city’s growth, already a global-scale connectivity hub, by attracting new players willing to use Marseille as a gateway to distribute their services and content towards Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.”  Interxion and PCH, he said, have a long story, of more than 15 years partnership, and we are proud to host in their data centres an organisation so vital as PCH for the global internet.

“Packet Clearing House’s PoP opening in our MAD1 data centre is an excellent news for the high-tech and connectivity hub of Madrid. The presence of such an important organisation will undoubtedly improve the hub’s attractiveness for all players in need of DNS technology in order to deliver their services and content towards Europe, Latin America and Northern Africa,” said Robert Assink, managing director of Interxion Spain.
