The defending champions Ruraraka A continued with their impressive unbeaten run this season with another big win as they moved to the top of the standings after Week 3.
Ruaraka A’s batting juggernaut rolled on in the Nairobi County Cricket Association (NCCA) Super Division 50-Overs League over the weekend, with Satyalaksha Jain and Omkar Ghule both scoring centuries of the season to power their Thika Road side to a massive 127-run win over Nairobi Gymkhana at Sir Ali Ground.
The twin hundreds were not a one-off. Both Jain and Ghule now have two centuries in three innings this season, underlining why Ruaraka A sit top of the table with three wins from three and a Net Run Rate of 2.133.
Gymkhana won the toss and elected to field first, a decision they regretted as the in-form batters of Ruaraka were off to a flyer, smashing the young medium pacers of Nairobi Gymkhana all over the park. Neel Doshi and Krishil Patel have been developing well, but this match was a lesson for both as they went for 80-plus runs in their allotted overs.
Batting first, Ruaraka A posted 389/10 in 49.5 overs. Jain was in devastating form, smashing 164 off 107 balls with 17 fours and 5 sixes at a strike rate of 153.27. Man of the Match Ghule provided the perfect foil with 125 off 91 balls, including 11 fours and 5 sixes. Their 200-plus contribution effectively complicated the contest for Gymkhana before they began their chase.
Gymkhana, still searching for their first win, were bowled out for 262 in 45.4 overs to hand Ruaraka a third straight victory.
Elsewhere, Swamibapa A maintained their dogged campaign with a clinical 7-wicket win over Stray Lions A at Peponi. Winning the toss, skipper Rushab Patel sent Stray Lions in to bat first under overcast conditions, and their pace bowlers made excellent use of the conditions to make early inroads into Stray Lions’ top order and never allowed their batsmen to stitch together any meaningful partnerships.
Stray Lions were bundled out for 160 in 39.1 overs, with Sachin Gill bowling an impressive spell of 9 overs, 4 maidens, conceding only 8 runs and picking up two crucial wickets. He was well supported by his opening bowling partner Peter Koech, who took 2 wickets for 24 runs.
Swamibapa, in response, chased down the target in only 27.5 overs for the loss of only 3 wickets. Rushab Patel finally got some runs under his belt, scoring 59 runs off 58 balls. Onkar Jadhav then finished the job with an impressive unbeaten 84 runs off only 69 balls.
The win has moved Swamibapa to third position on the table after a false start to the season.
It was a day of high drama at Sikh Union Club as hosts Sikh Union A tied with Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj (SCLPS YL A).
Batting first, Samaj A posted a formidable 284/8 in their 50 overs. Sikh Union matched it exactly, finishing on 284/9 from their 50 overs to share the points in a rare Super Division tie. The result leaves Sikh Union A fourth with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 tie.
Sent into batting by Sukhdeep Singh, the SCLPS YL A side posted a decent total, assisted by Ansh Jadhav’s first half-century of the season and local boy Ankit Bhanderi scoring a fine half-century. The duo’s partnership was instrumental in their team posting a good score in the first innings.
In response, Shubham Patel scored a scintillating century to almost take his team home. Subham, who recently made his debut for the national side, scored his first hundred of the season (117 off 124 balls).
The Sir Ali A versus Ngara A fixture at Ngara SC Ground in South C was abandoned due to unplayable conditions.
The weekend results leave Ruaraka A clear at the top with 12 points, followed by Kanbis A on 8 points.
With Jain and Ghule in sublime form after three innings, and Ruaraka having scored 759 runs and conceded 150 so far, their high-scoring antics show no signs of slowing down.
Meanwhile, Ruaraka A dominates the batting charts after three outings, with Satyalaksha Jain and Omkar Ghule setting the pace. Jain leads the runs leaderboard with 312 runs in 3 innings at an average of 104.00 and a blistering strike rate of 143.78, including two centuries.
His teammate Ghule is right behind him in second with 273 runs at 91.00, also from 3 innings. The pair’s consistency has been central to Ruaraka’s perfect start to the season and explains their team’s status as the highest-scoring side so far.
Sikh Union A’s Shubham Patel occupies third spot with 215 runs in 3 innings at an average of 71.67 and a strike rate of 104.37. He has been the mainstay for Sikh Union, who also have skipper Sukhdeep Singh in the top five. Sukhdeep has 165 runs at 55.00 and the second-best strike rate on the list at 133.06, showing his ability to score quickly in the order.
Both players were key in Sikh Union’s dramatic tie over the weekend and will be crucial if their side is to climb higher on the table.
Rounding out the top five is Swamibapa A’s Dhwanil Patel, with 162 runs in 3 innings at 54.00 and a strike rate of 116.55. Dhwanil’s contributions have helped Swamibapa to two wins from three matches and third place overall.
With all five leading run-scorers having played the same number of innings, the battle for the top run-scorer award is already shaping up to be a contest between Ruaraka’s dominant pair and the chasing pack from Sikh Union and Swamibapa.
In Division One, Kanbis B continued with their perfect start by defeating Legends CC A by 7 wickets at their home ground. In other matches, Swamibapa B defeated Wolves CC A by 3 wickets. Nbi Gymkhana B defeated Ruaraka B in a low-scoring thriller by 3 runs, and Sir Ali B defeated Sikh Union B by 63 runs.
