IT IS TIME TO GET THE WORK DONE

The Nairobi Law Monthly September Edition

The World Intellectual Property Day celebrations organized by the Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law (CIPIT) took place at Strathmore University Auditorium on 26th April 2014. The theme of the event was, “Movies – a Global Passion”. It is aimed at raising awareness of Intellectual Property to law schools in Kenya as well as nurturing and empowering law students.

 

The events of the day included the 1st Annual Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, which is aimed at providing a platform for exposing law students to Intellectual Property Rights, and is the first of its kind in Kenya.Intellectual property moot court is just but one category that premised on the fact that law students need real time processes of a court.

There were 15 overall winners: best team plus runner up (teams of 3), best oralist plus runner up, best memorial plus runner up and most promising individual. A tented area, The Pavilion, is where exhibitors met event attendees and carried out public outreach activities. Exhibitors here included Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Services (KEPHIS), Resolution Health and more.Chief Justice, who is also the president of the Supreme Court of Kenya, Dr. Willy Mutunga was the special guest.
