Makueni County Government has launched a digital healthcare system to boost services across all health facilities in the county, Governor Mutula Kilonzo said on Monday, July 1.

The Governo said primary objective of the digital system dubbed “Afya Makueni”, is to reduce paperwork while offering healthcare services and minimize administrative tasks so that focus will be on the patients.

It will enable monitoring the number of patients visiting health facilities, drug consumption, revenue collection and help the restocking of health facilities in the county.

“Through this system, a patient will spend a minimum of 43 minutes to be taken through the administrative process to discharge. Initially the process took two hours,” said Mutula while launching the system at the Makueni County Referral Hospital on Monday.

He added that the system will ease patient referral between health centres saying this will allow health workers to access comprehensive patient information from the referring health facility.

It will also enable inter-facility borrowing of drugs whereby a facility that is in deficit can borrow from another well stocked facility to enhance health care service delivery to mwananchi.

During the launch, the Governor lauded the Department of Health for emerging top in revenue collection to a tune of Sh600 million in the county in the 2023-2024 financial year.

Pinnacle Integrated Technologies was integral in ensuring the Afya Makueni Digital System was up and running.

Present at the function included the County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Health, Dr. Paul Musila, his counterparts for Education and Finance Elizabeth Muli and Damaris Kavoi among other county government officials.  By Collins Muuo and Collins Nguma of KNA
