Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria said on Wednesday June 5, Kenya will grow its economy to 7.2 percent in year 2027/2028, up from the 4.8 percent achieved in 2022.
The CS was speaking in Nairobi during the launch of the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP IV) 2023-2027, a five-year plan that is aligned to the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) with the aim of turning around the country’s economy.
The CS, who was accompanied by the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Wildlife, Silvia Museiya at the event held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, said he will monitor the delivery and performance of the MTP IV Plan to ensure the team working on the agenda delivers.
“I am confident that by the year 2027 the government will achieve its goal of growing up the economy to 7 percent,” Kuria said, urging Kenyans to be optimistic regarding economic growth and stop spreading negativity that the economy is not doing well.
He also encouraged the Nairobi County team not to stoop low to societal vices like tribalism and corruption, but instead being a cosmopolitan area, serve as example to other counties, saying if all regions contribute towards the 7percent the country will realize its goals.
Nairobi County Priority Projects in MTP IV include the construction and rehabilitation of railway and road works, which include the completion of Nairobi Expressway, completion of Nairobi Railway City, construction of 10km Embakasi village-Ruai Commuter line, the 21 km Nairobi Central Station-JKIA MGR, the 26 James-Gichuru junction-Rironi road, the Nairobi-Thika Highway Improvement Project Lot 1 and 2, the Nairobi Western Bypass and Nairobi Express way.
