Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) board has embarked on the process of replacing former director general Ezra Chiloba who resigned last month (October) following his suspension and subsequent resignation on accusations of mismanaging the staff mortgage scheme.

The Authority, in an advertisement in the local dailies, said that it was in the process of looking for a suitable candidate for the position of director general and chief executive officer following the exit of Chiloba who left the organization after he was accused of mismanaging the staff mortgage scheme.

In the advertisement, CA chairperson Mary Wambui Mungai, says that the Authority is looking for a dynamic and visionary candidate to fill the role of a director-general and the chief executive officer.

The candidate, CA argues, should also possess, among other things, leadership and regulatory expertise skills, be able to effectively engage  different stakeholders, manage resources, be accountable and also be willing to enforce compliance within the technology and communication sector.

“The DG will provide leadership, expertise and strategic direction needed to effectively regulate, promote and lead the technology, communications and broadcasting sector in Kenya,” Mungai said.

“In essence, the role will demand a comprehensive skill set and unwavering commitment to fulfil CA’s mission,” she added.

Chiloba resigned from CA early this month in a letter addressed to Mungai. He had served as the DG since 2021, after taking over from Francis Wangusi who had earlier retired.

Chiloba had in September been suspended following an internal audit that accused him of financial impropriety.

According to the audit, Chiloba and nine other top officials at the authority allegedly mishandled mortgages and allowances running into millions of shillings.

Chiloba was facing allegations of applying for and self-approving a mortgage loan without adhering to due process, to facilitate a property sale. He however denied any wrongdoing.

And in the new advertisement, interested candidates must possess about 10 years’ relevant work experience, strong leadership skills and be people of integrity according to Ms Mungai.

“Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications, including a detailed CV, a cover letter and contact information of three professional references by Friday November 17, 2023 at 5pm,” Ms Mungai said.
